Brief Introduction to the Primary School Attached to Central China Normal University
The Primary School Attached to Central China Normal University (CCNU), which was established in June 1958, is located on the beautiful Guizi Hill in Wuchang District of Wuhan, bordering the Science and Technology Street of Wuhan City. The school mainly enrolls the children of employees working in the university. The campus covers an area of 12,184 square meters, among which the building area is 8,443 square meters, with 29 classes and 1,803 students in total from Grade 1 to 6.
We own well-developed educational facilities. In recent years, during the process of striving for a demonstration school at provincial and city level, with the support of CCNU, the students are available to the computer room, language lab, electronic reading room, science lab, labor skills studio, music room, art room, room for dancing and body-building, reading room, a multimedia lecture hall, courseware production studio, bases for botanical garden, labor practice and patriotism education, 200meters circular plastic runway, closed-circuit television systems, wireless carrier broadcasting systems, computer network systems and so on. All the classrooms, offices and laboratories are equipped with computers.
The school has a team of reasonably structured and excellent teachers. With the faculty of 82, we altogether have 3 special-grade teachers, 9 senior secondary school teachers, 52 senior primary school teachers. 7 teachers have a master’s degree, 40 teachers have a bachelor’s degree, and 31 have associate degree. That is, the teachers having an associate degrees or above account for 97.3%. all the teachers have certificates of teachers’ basic skills issued by the educational administration department. 41 teachers have participated in the national, provincial and municipal backbone teachers training,
50% of the teachers have won the first prize in teaching competitions at provincial, city and district level. 60% of the teachers have published articles in national education newspapers and magazines. To sum up, a team of teachers with high education level, comprehensive disciplines and good qualities are basically formed. "Guangming Daily" and "China Reform" have conducted a special report on the construction of teachers in schools with the title “Focus on Teachers' In-Service Training” and "Basis of Becoming Prosperous Schools”
The school has a group of leaders with correct concepts of education and strong senses of professionalism and responsibility. Mr. Yao Xiaoming, the principal of the Primary School Attached to Central China Normal University, got his master’s degree in education management from the Department of Education in Central China Normal University. He is an excellent teacher in Hubei Province, outstanding principal of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, education and scientific research academic leader and one member of China’s one thousand excellent principles training courses. Since 1997 when he assumed office, by putting scientific research as a guide, he has been promoting development through reform, so that the school has made extraordinary developments, which is rarely seen, and has become a brand school that has enjoyed a good fame in Hubei Province. There are 7 middle-level cadres having bachelors’ degrees, and they are all members or officers of professional societies at provincial, municipal and district levels. Some also take important positions such as president, vice president, secretary general of the societies. Besides, they also conduct teaching. Young, energetic and vibrant, they are the dominant force of conducting quality education and facing various challenges.
The school has a satisfactory quality of education. In educational activities, the school has specific requirements of optimized preparation for classes, teaching classes, observation and evaluation of classes. With the requirements of the new times, we regard “active learning” and “learning to learn” as the breakthrough and focus of the implementation of quality education. Many researches are based on this. To name a few, “Research on the Guiding Strategies in Primary School Students”, “Research on Primary School Students’ Learning Ability” and “Research on the Optimization and Guidance of in Primary School Students’ Diversified Ways to Study”. To enable students to adapt to the development of society, the teachers are required to impart learning methods and learning skills to students while teaching so that the students will have the ability of lifelong learning and sustainable development and lay a solid foundation. Due to the innovation of teachers’ teaching awareness and teaching methods, students are more enthusiastic and active in study. They are the real masters in class. The teaching method and awareness has changed from “teaching-centered” to “learning-centered”, and the students “passive learning” to “active learning”. These great changes effectively help to eliminate the rigid atmosphere and single teaching method. In addition, the students will be more active and disciplined, showing a harmonious development. Since 1996, a total of 1012 students have won awards in various competitions above the district level. Many students have won national prizes. For instance, Zhu Ming and Han Bin have won the first prize in China’s Science Olympiad. Long Xueping has won the first prize in national mathematics competition. The graduates are generally welcomed by middle schools. Thanks to the high quality of education, our school has been praised by local education bureau for many years.
The moral Education in our schools is very distinctive and has reached outstanding results. In order to strengthen moral education and make it more effective and targeted, in addition to conventional work, we have designed a series of novel active moral education activities by following the characteristics of children. We have conducted a lot of activities. To name a few, the military training has helped the children learn to be independent and strong; art festival offers a stage for students to show their individual strengths and cultivate their sense of competition. What’s more, social practices, mental health education activities, legal education activities and experiential education activities have also been popular among us. By conducting these activities, moral education work of our school has changed from a traditional didactic manner to a new way characterized by abundant education contents, various activities, strict management and scientific method.
Adhering to develop our school by scientific research is an important move for us to become an elite school in Hubei Province. Taking the educational advantages of Central China Normal University, we have been sticking to educational reform experiment. From 1991-2000, our teachers had participated in more than 10 key research projects at state, provincial and municipal level, which helps them update education concept, improve teaching abilities, enhance awareness of scientific research. So that the school's teaching and research work interact and integrate with each other. Currently the school is not only the educational practice base for CCNU, but also the education and scientific research experimental base approved by provincial, municipal and district educational administrative departments. Driven by education and scientific research, the teachers, on the one hand, have improved themselves, and on the other hand, have achieved fruitful achievements. Since the “Ninth Five-Year Plan”(1996-2000), there have been 106 teachers winning awards by education administrative departments at state, provincial, municipal and district level. 123 teachers have won prizes in teaching quality competitions and teaching skill competitions at various levels. In addition, the teachers at our school have published more than 150 papers, lesson plans and lab reports in education newspapers and magazines, and more than 100 textbooks, teaching references and supplementary books. The article “The Concept of Optimizing Teaching” written by Mr. Yao Xiaoming, the principal of our school, has won the third prize in “The Third Education and Research Competition in Hubei Province”. The lab report of our school, “Research on the Guiding Strategies in Primary School Students’ Active Learning” has won the first prize in “The World's Best Paper Award of Chinese Education”, “Education and Scientific Research Competition in Hubei Province” and “Education and Scientific Research Competition in Wuhan”. Our school, therefore, has been rated as a demonstration school for in Hubei Province, one of the Top 50 schools in education, science and research both in Wuhan and Hubei Province.
