First “Beilei Reading Festival” Held
Date: December, 7, 2010
On the morning of December 6, the opening ceremony of the first “Beilei Reading Festival” was held on the playground at 8:20.
Books are the precious spiritual wealth of human beings and are lifelong friends.Although this is the first reading festival in the school, we have a long and fruitfulhistory of reading activities, the experience of which had promoted the reading festival. Nearly a hundred parents were invited to attend the opening ceremony.
The first thing of the opening ceremony was raising the national flag. Although flag-raising was routinely on every Monday morning, it was conducted today due to the importance of the reading festival just like Premier Zhou Enlai’s vow, “Studying for a prosperous and rising China.”
Mr. Yao Xiaoming, the principal of school, attached great importance to the first “Beilei Reading Festival”. In his speech, Mr. Yao talked about why the school hosted the reading festival and what to read. He also quoted many famous sentences and idioms about reading to motivate students. Moreover, “与经典相伴,与阅览同行”(which means “reading the classics, and making friends with books.”) , the theme of the first “Beilei Reading Festival” written by Mr. Yao wrote, was made banners hanging on both sides of the podium.
The students took a very active part in the festival. Wang Yixuan and Wang Kexin, two students in grade two, presented a poem recitation "May Mother Earth a better place" expressing their wishes to bring benefit to Mother Earth by their knowledge and abilities improved by reading more books. Their performances gained praises of the audience.
What encouraged students most were the wishes written by some teachers, for instance, “书山有路勤为径,学海无涯苦作舟”( which means “there is no royal road to learning”). The last part of the opening ceremony was that 60 representatives of the students elected from each class wrote their thoughts of the reading festival on the banners. Some parents attending the opening ceremony said the opening ceremony of the first “Beilei Reading Festival” was simple but to the point and meaningful. They hoped that the children would be enlightened from this and formed the habit of reading.
